Today I want to know something about the weather where you come from or where you live. Let me tell you about the weather where I live.
I live in Glacier, Washington. The average yearly precipitation is about 45 inches. That's a lot--compare that to San Diego's annual precipitation, which averages about 10 inches. Glacier is located at about 800 feet above sea level, so most of the precipitation comes in the form of rain. Today is the third day in a row of heavy, continuous rain. However, if you travel 20 miles up the mountain, you'll reach Mt. Baker Ski Area, which is the current world record holder for snowfall in one year, with 1,048 inches of snow in 1999. The picture you see is one I took from the ski lift on the last day of the ski season this past April. Last season, while I worked at the ski resort, we got about 860 inches of snow in six months.
How's the weather where you live? Does your area hold any weather records?
